Serving Urbana, Adamstown, Buckeystown, Ijamsville, Monrovia, Green Valley, New Market, and portions of Mt. Airy

Our Beginning

What started more than 30 years ago at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, Ijamsville, MD, evolved over the years and with God's marvelous grace has become The Greater Urbana Area Food Bank.

The early efforts of a handful of church members now involves the loving participation of an entire ecumenical community in the south eastern portion of Frederick County, Maryland.

After being  challenged by then Pastor, The Reverend Thomas Polk to take the Food For the Needy Program there to new heights, Jo Ostby accepted and stood back and watched God's hand in every area of what is now the food bank's operations. Stories of true inspiration have come out of those operations almost daily. Those stories will be shared in the Jo's Blog section of this website.

The Greater Urbana Area Food Bank is definitely a "God Thing."

With the help of her husband, Larry and many volunteers, Jo leads and motivates the community to assist the needy among them today.
